Seriously, this is so bad it’s hilarious
Some Atheists in Britain got their undies up in a bunch and how they’ve decided to spend money making themselves look like total douchebags. Good going.
The sides of some of London’s red buses will soon carry ads asserting there is “probably no God,” as nonbelievers fight what they say is the preferential treatment given to religion in British society.
“Oh Lord, Make my enemies ridiculous”
The ad campaign is obviously meant to enrage and insult anyone who considers themselves a believer. However, it would seem that it has had the opposite effect with sitting members of many religions.
Few believers appeared offended by the campaign, although most doubted it would work.
“I think people will ask themselves, ‘On what basis can they make that statement?” said Inayat Bunglawala of the Muslim Council of Britain. “So it will get people thinking, so in that sense it can only be good.”
The Muslim’s aren’t offended.
The Rev. Jenny Ellis, spirituality and discipleship officer for the Methodist Church, welcomed the ads.
“This campaign will be a good thing if it gets people to engage with the deepest questions of life,” she said.
The Christians aren’t offended either.
Looks like nobody is offended except for other atheists, and that one atheist would, predictably, be Richard Dawkins who wrote the “The God Delusion”. Dawkins claims that they ads will “provoke thought” and that thinking is “Anathema to religion”. Uh, no, Dick, its not. Viciously attacking a person because they have faith, writing books and making public statements that God is an imaginary figure, and claiming that religion is a disease counts as Anathema.
However, questions and deep thinking is NOT anathema.
While Dawkins seems to support the ad campaign he does complain that the ads include the word “probably” in their signs. Obviously Dawkins wanted a more direct and blunt message along the lines of “There is definitely no God” but since neither science nor any amount of outside-the-box thinking can prove that I suppose he’ll just have to deal with it.
