At times I think that Obama just covers his ears and screams “LALALALALALALALALA” everytime someone asks him about Energy independance and the current outrageous prices regarding energy bills. However, it seems the crisis has reached a point where Obama has finally decided to give out some of his divine wisdom. So, what is the new messiah’s idea?
Throw money at it and hope it goes away.
U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama proposed a package of measures on Friday to help workers fight rising energy costs, including an immediate $1,000 tax rebate for low- and middle-income families.
Ahhhhh, tax rebates for the low and middle class. Obama and his flimsy judgement have seen it fit to keep the upper class free from receiving any relief from the energy crunch. Despite the fact that, ya know, they pay more taxes than anyone and are still having to pay the same $4.00 a gallon as everyone else, but whatever I guess to Obama “they can afford it”.
The Illinois senator also revamped his proposal for a $50 billion economic stimulus plan to include $25 billion to replenish the highway trust fund and pay for infrastructure improvements that aides said could save up to 1 million endangered jobs.
Translation: He’s going to use taxpayer money to flood the government sector to cover sections like Infrastructure that should have already been budgeted and paid for in the first place. Expect a hefty tax increase before this ridiculous amount gets approved on.
Obama said the proposals grew from his talks this week in Washington with economic officials and an all-star panel of economic advisers including billionaire investor Warren Buffett.
“We agreed that the main risk we face today is doing too little in the face of our growing economic troubles,” he said.
Inflate your tires people. According to Obama just by doing that we would never have a need for drilling for more oil. Also, why the hell is anyone listening to some old douchebag that says things like “Gold has no production value”? Not to mention a man who looked at the downturn in the financial sector as “Poetic Justice” back in 2007, AND he actually likes the inheritance tax which befuddles the hell out of me. He’s an old asshole who is now being seen clamoring around the captain bullshit who’s running for President. Why his opinion even carries weight today boggles the mind.
Speaking of Captain bullshit (sorry Ace but I’m using this) he’s decided that another way to bring about relief to the American people rests in the form of (Nope, still not drilling for oil for dependance) stealing money from other people. Don’t believe me? Let me introduce you to Obama’s windfall tax idea:
Obama already had proposed a windfall profits tax on oil company profits but the new plan specifies the tax would last five years. He linked his call for a windfall profits tax to Exxon Mobil’s announcement on Thursday of nearly $12 billion in profits for the quarter.
“It’s time we used some of their record profits to help you pay record prices,” he said.
You know what a “Windfall profit” tax is? It’s where the government steps in on a business and decides what amount of money is “fair” for them to make. Essentially the government would be telling Exxon Mobil that their 12 billion dollars in profit was “just too much for them” so the government would take away a portion of that profit to use for themselves. How is that not stealing? I guess when you disguise it in the form of “sticking it to the corporations” or “helping the less fortunate” then you can pretend that theft is charity.
So, yeah, there you have it. Obama’s plans on taking money from taxpayers and then, with the money you already gave him, he;s going to give you just a small portion of that back and keep the rest for the government sector. All the while not really creating a solution to the problem of high energy costs, but merely sticking a dirty band-aid over it and hoping it sticks for a while.
