I’ve never thought Dan Riehl was an idiot or anything of the sort. Ever.
However, his nagging over the fact that “Fredheads” are so zealous about supporting their candidate that they would sit out of the general election is quite a bit much. Not to mention that his complaints do nothing but make him out to seem as if he’s absolutely flipped out. Sorry Dan, but perhaps you need to just sit back for a moment and re-evaluate yourself for just a sec.
I understand where he’s coming from. I do. However, his wants and needs of defeating Hillary in 08′ is forcing him in to the corner of “vote republican just for the sake of defating Hillary”, and I’m going to tell you right now that way of thinking is just as dangerous AS voting for Hillary. Oh, I know what your thinking “OMG Aurvant! That’s just crazy talk! Anyone is better than Hillary! just vote for McCain, Huckabee, Romney, Giuliani, [insert RINO here]“, but the truth is that not everyone is better than Hillary. By voting for someone like McCain or Huckabee I wouldn’t be voting for someone based on conservative principles or because they fit the mold of a great conservative candidate. No, I would be voting for them just because everyone else is doing it and that isn’t how I roll.
I don’t care if the Godfather himself, Rush Limbaugh, went up there and cast his ballot for Huckabee or McCain I wouldn’t do it. Not in a million years would I ever vote those two in to the Presidential seat. They aren’t conservatives and I will not sacrifice my own principles just to stick someone in office that isn’t a democrat.
Is this what the rest of the conservative movement is doing? Are they voting for people who are “just good enough” to do the job? This has been one of the most public and politically charged elections in the history of this country, but for some reason I just think that the republicans side is trying to shed the mantle of real conservatism just so they can fit in with the rising leftist progressives. It’s as if everyone on the right is meshing towards one unified group of “moderates” so that they can feel as if they have a fighting chance of winning political power instead of staying true to their convictions.
Ugh….nightmares. I can only hope it never comes to that. Ever.
