I think that anyone who saw Mr. Paul say that can agree that he probably hadn’t seen the ad. He decided to speak instead to his values of how one ought to act, perhaps quoting the first American to win the Nobel-Prize-in-Literature was not so questionable. Furthermore, because Mr. Paul had yet to see the ad, perhaps he wasn’t sure if it applied or not, which is why he explicitly stated that. Therefore, if we go back and actually look at what he said, he would have been clearer stating that ‘he hadn’t seen it, didn’t want to comment on it, but wouldn’t include explicit references to religion because of the feeling outlined by Mr. Sinclair.
