News – Gonzales Resigns : Update – Chertoff replaces him?

I’m back from a vacation weekend and s**t is already hitting the fan.

I honestly can’t blame the guy for quitting. You have every media outlet hounding you at every turn about what you may or may not have done and your boss (Mr. President) won’t stand up against the critics in the way that you would have liked. I would have quit long before Gonzales did, but then again I would have also given every one of those interrogators at the conferences and meetings the finger for drudging up fake crimes like they’ve done.

The embattled chief law enforcement officer in the U.S. had been besieged by attacks on his credibility and capability over his handling of the firing of at least eight U.S. prosecutors last year and for statements he made to Congress about the debate over the legality of National Security Agency surveillance programs.

Gonzales gave President Bush his resignation on Friday, who grudgingly accepted it. The president is currently at his ranch in Texas but is traveling to New Mexico, Washington and Nevada on Monday. Gonzales is one of the last members of the administration still around who had been with the president since before Bush was elected governor of Texas in 1994

Whatever Gonzales does from here is his own business and perhaps he can finally get some rest from the constant stream of attacks that the left has thrown at him. Regardless of what he does or what happens to him lets just go ahead and remember one single detail: “Those attorneys who were fired were fired legally. They serve at the pleasure of the President and can be fired for any reason at any time. No crime was committed“.

I don’t know why the President or some other member of his staff didn’t just come out and say that exact sentence but they didn’t and now they’ve been given the run around by the MSM and the liberal left.

Sad to see the guy go. He fought it out as long as he could, but with all of the pressure that the left puts on people these days it must just come down to the decision of whether you try and fight or you crumble under pressure. Sadly, the Bush administration has done nothing but crumble under the constant pressure of fake allegations made by the leftist crowd.

Hopefully his replacement will know how to stick it to the press when they start running that mouth again.

UPDATE: HotAir says they think that Chertoff will replace him.

I don’t know if thats a good or a bad thing, but i’m pretty much leaning in the direction of it being a “bad” idea. I never really did care for Chertoff especially and this news is kinda crappy. I was hoping they would pick someone that would be better suited to fill the role but I question this decision. I think that I won’t be getting my wish of having a tough personality in the Bush Administration any time soon.
