As a transsexual, I feel it important to not only say that the community at large is not “perverted” and we don’t have an erotic fascination with being the other sex.

If it was a mind thing, we would be treated with pills, not have our bodies altered. The treatment isn’t to fix the brain it’s to fix the body.

I tend to agree with you on that point; I referenced the hormonal levels as an example of why I “lean” towards the psychological cause as opposed to fully subscribing to it. Thankfully for my sanity, bud sadly for my wallet, I’m not an expert on human psychology or abnormal brain development.

Well, the hormonal imbalances excuse for performing gender modification is a bit weak if you ask me. People who have testicular or ovarian cancer have the organs removed that produce these hormones (Estrogen, Testosterone) and they experience the problems associated with the result. Men lose hair in places, gain weight easier and star to form other questionable body shapes, and vice versa however these people don’t consider themselves now apart of the opposite sex.

It takes some sort, at least in my view, some sort of psychological fascination with the opposite sex to want to modify yourself in to becoming one of them.

While I disagree with your “pervert” sentiment regarding transgendered people, I agree with you on the issue of harrassment and it’s negative affects on research.

For myself, I lean more towards the psychological explanation than the physical one, though some studies have shown transgendered people – before any sort of modification – having hormonal imbalances that are closer to the levels in the opposite gender than their own.

The PC crowd – what I call “The Cult of Tolerance” seems hell-bent on attacking anyone who believes anyone else is doing something wrong – well…except for themselves of course.
