Science! – Y2K bug actually did break something! Update: Incorrect Global Warming info still being used.

August 9, 2007 Aurvant Leave a comment

Turns out it broke NASA

No, seriously. You know how the media touts around the information that 1998 was the warmest year on record? Well, guess what! That information has now been found to be completely false. The warmest year on record?

1934.

These graphs were created by NASA’s Reto Ruedy and James Hansen (who shot to fame when he accused the administration of trying to censor his views on climate change). Hansen refused to provide McKintyre with the algorithm used to generate graph data, so McKintyre reverse-engineered it. The result appeared to be a Y2K bug in the handling of the raw data.

McKintyre notified the pair of the bug; Ruedy replied and acknowledged the problem as an “oversight” that would be fixed in the next data refresh.

The article says that NASA has silently released the new figures after fixing the bug. Here’s the link to the new numbers.

As it turns out, as the article states, that 5 of the top 10 warmest years? All happened before WWII. So, is the science settled now? I think now…..that consensus nonsense we’ve all heard about? based on information that was factually inaccurate. Guess the eco-nuts will have to back up and punt on this topic for a while, but im willing to bet they’ll ignore this little story and still use the incorrect information.

That’s kinda their thing.

UPDATE : HotAir has an article up that links to sites that are still using the incorrect data that NASA just corrected. Looks like the Gorebot and his cronies that advocate his fake science aren’t going to let the real truth get out just yet.

Doesn’t surprise me in the least. A lot of people have banked their lives on the notion that Global Warming was man-made and that there must be a world wide scramble to save the planet. They claim the “science is settled” clearly it is not. However, the MSM has yet to comment on this global error and many science journals are now beginning to just twist the info around to lead people right back to the doomsday scenario they have made up.

US Group – Iraq needs another dictator?!?

August 9, 2007 Aurvant Leave a comment

Apparently these guys aren’t thinking clearly.

If anything they aren’t thinking at all. The notion that implementing a dictator to take the place of one that you just got rid of is absolutely insane. In fact, I’m actually quite sure that it falls under the definition of insane. What was it again? Doing the same thing over and over again but trying to come to a different conclusion? I can’t remember who said it…..it sounds like Einstein and I believe that wholeheartedly.

“An authoritarian government is scenario No. 1 in Iraq,” he said. “It’s the only one that allows the US and the UK retrieve a modicum of our interests. We should start thinking about how to make it happen.”

Good God. The sad part? the believes that the “dictator” implemented would have to take a backseat though in making Iraq safe. Yeah, I doubt that any man put in that position of power would take a backseat to anything. All of this seems rather familiar…..the planners….the strongman agenda….where have I heard that before?

Ah yes, The Road To Serfdom.

News! – Malaki and Ahmadenijad?

August 9, 2007 Aurvant 1 comment

This upsets me.

Wednesday, Maliki held private talks on security with Ali Larijani, head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, followed by a photo-op showing him hand in hand with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and a meeting with supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

He also discussed plans for Iran to build a power station in Baghdad’s Shiite Sadr City district and supplies of 400,000 tons of kerosene and liquid gas.

Ok. I agree with Michelle on this one. The President should be very concerned.

This is the last thing that anyone needs to hear or see considering all of the trouble that Iran has been causing. The American people aren’t going to think that things are going somewhat smoothly if they see the leaders of Iraq (a nation were trying to rebuild) acting all buddy buddy with leader of Iran. Ahmadenijad has clearly been an outspoken voice against the U.S. military and he has tried to smear our good name at every opportunity, and now we see pictures of Malaki and Ahmadenijad literally holding hands in a sign of unity?

Somethings going on here and I don’t like it.

Apocolyptic – The Earth is Angry! Grrrrrr~

August 9, 2007 Aurvant Leave a comment

I was gonna post this yesterday but I’m kinda lazy when it comes to Enviromentalism.

According to the Guardian we have much more than rising temperatures to worry about. In fact, they claim that the Earth might just seek out to wipe us from it’s surface. In the form of earthquakes, tornados, landslides, and volcanos.

Looking back to other periods in our planet’s history when the climate was swinging about wildly, most notably during the last ice age, it appears that far more than the weather was affected. The solid earth also became restless, with an increase in volcanic activity, earthquakes, giant submarine landslides and tsunamis. At the rate climate change is accelerating, there is every prospect that we will see a similar response from the planet, heralding not just a warmer future but also a fiery one.

That’s right people. Your SUV won’t just raise the temperature….it very well could bring the wrath of Gaia down upon us. That bitch.

Huzzah! – Charges dropped in Iraq Deaths

August 9, 2007 Aurvant Leave a comment

Exonerated.

What was the official word?

A general dropped all charges Thursday against a Marine who had been accused of killing three Iraqi brothers in response to a roadside bomb attack in Haditha in 2005.

“The evidence does not support a referral to a court-martial,” Lt. Gen. James Mattis wrote in his written decision.

Well, alrighty then.

Billy Graham – Media uses evangelist to try and smooth over Hillary

August 9, 2007 Aurvant Leave a comment

You can dispute it, but you’ll still be wrong.

Hillary has a public image and the polls show that the people don’t think her current image is a very flattering one. She comes across as a harping, callous, angry woman to many people and the MSM has to try and go behind her to perform damage control. So, in the latest attempt at giving Mrs. Clinton a shiny new look they turn to evangelist Billy Graham. The Reverend was known to have been a long friend of the Clinton’s, and for that reason alone I became very weary about the relationship. Sources say that Mr. Graham was very fond of the Clintons:

Both Bill and Hillary Clinton were sitting with him on stage in Flushing Meadows when Graham greeted them as his “wonderful friends of many years.” “I told him,” Graham said of President Clinton, “when he left the presidency, he should become an evangelist, because he had all the gifts.” Graham paused, and added with a smile, “And he could [let] his wife run the country.”

I imagine this is the part where I’m supposed to just fall back and swoon at the notion that a world famous evangelist just gave his approval to the Clinton’s. To a simple, uneducated citizen they might be swayed but for someone, like myself, who remembers the sexual deviancy, the constant scandals, and the embarrassment that they both left on the White House well….I have to question Mr. Graham’s motives for saying such a thing. It was claimed as a joke, but I didn’t find it funny.

So, the question is why is this story gaining so much ground? Well, the religious right doesn’t really like Hillary and she desperately needs those votes. Many of the right favor Billy Graham so the MSM figures if the Crusading evangelist was backing the illustrious Hillary then they might consider voting for her as opposed to a republican candidate who cant make up his mind on what he believes.

The problem with this is that most of the public doesn’t pay attention to the finer details of things. They mostly don’t hear that Clinton is an avid supporter of anti-military action (despite her vote to authorize the war), she is a well known socialist who favors governmental regulation and control, she is a supporter of Abortion rights and Homosexuality rights. However, the conservatives wont pick any of that up, but instead see piece after piece on how “spiritual” Hillary is.

I, for one, ain’t falling for the sham, and I think it’s deplorable to try and use this news piece to try and win Hillary some votes.

News – North and South Korea to meet again.

August 9, 2007 Aurvant Leave a comment

Kinda really big news.

Considering the two have been against each other for over half a century this could be a very good thing or a very bad thing. This will mark the second time that the two of them have actually had talks with each other in the last 50 years. The first time was back in 2000, but that all turned out to be a phony press conference.

Back in 2000, with much fanfare, Kim Jong Il met his South Korean counterpart in a historic North South summit, where the two sides worked to try to bury a hatchet that’s now more than 50 years old. But then tensions with the U.S. over the nuclear issue blunted any forward momentum and a scandal later revealed the summit to have been very much a sham. Will this meeting, scheduled for Aug. 28-30 in Pyongyang, be any different?

I can understand the skepticism. N. Korea has had a reputation of leading a very secretive and stubborn lifestyle that pretty much has bucked against the rest of the world. However, with the recent events with N.Korea disassembling it’s nuke programs and shutting down their reactors it seems that the ball might actually get rolling this time. It would be kind nice to see them put all that mess that tore them apart behind them already.

This time, diplomats and politicians in Seoul insist, the summit comes amid genuine momentum on the nuclear front — momentum that they believe the meeting at the end of August will add to. Inspectors from the United Nations were in North Korea last month to verify that the Pyongyang had idled its nuclear plant at Yongbyon.

There has already been some positive momentum building in settling the N. Korea disputes peacefully and if this meeting goes off without a hitch and some progress is made? Well, lets just say that it will be a good day for all of us.

News! – Chemical Bombs, hate crimes, and incognito mosques

August 9, 2007 Aurvant Leave a comment

Well, it wasn’t really a bomb, the building isn’t marked as a mosque, and theres a big possibility it isn’t really a hate crime.

This incident, like so many others, is being labeled as something that it isn’t. A bottle containing a chemical and a reactant was thrown out of a car at two men who were standing at the road outside of a converted mobile home that was acting as a mosque. Five other incidents just like this appeared around Glendale but those didn’t seem to be “religiously motivated” or some bullcrap like that.

The incident occurred about 1 a.m. Monday when a bottle with a swimming pool chemical and a reactant was tossed by a passenger in a red car and landed on the street outside the structure, a converted mobile home with no outside markings identifying it as a mosque, Toomey said.

So it didn’t even land on the property of this “mosque”. Now, the punks who did this are guilty of a crime, but the indication that this was some religiously motivated hate crime is purely speculation. In fact, the only people who are trying to write this off as a hate crime is, and you could probably guess it, CAIR! They’re all over this one and they are pushing that hate crime card hard.

I’m not saying that there wasn’t a crime committed, but I believe that the MSM has stretched this one out as far as they could to make it sound that way. On a side note: I hope the punks responsible get carted off to jail.

Christianophobia – Islamic states sure are tolerant aren’t they

August 9, 2007 Aurvant 4 comments

Well, Saudi Arabia sure isn’t

I think that this incident isn’t just reserved for Saudi Arabia either. I’m pretty sure being caught with a Bible in Iran will get you in trouble and last time I checked Islamic terrorists were holding about 20 Christian hostages in Afghanistan. Religion of Peace eh?

Despite a series of initiatives aimed at generating foreign tourism, the Saudi Arabian government continues to bar Jews and Christians from bringing items such as Bibles, crucifixes and Stars of David into the country and is threatening to confiscate them on sight, The Jerusalem Post has learned.

Well, maybe they are confiscating them in a peaceful way. Like maybe choosing not to rough you up first before tearing an object of your faith out of your hands and taking it away from you forever, and before any of you leftist moonbats start spouting off about this; NO, there hasn’t been any action taken in this country against Muslims like this and you’d be hard pressed to find any example of it.

“You are not allowed to bring that stuff into the kingdom,” the consular official said. “If you do, they will take it away,” she warned, adding, “If it is really important to you, then you can try to bring it and just see what happens, but I don’t recommend that you do so.”

Asked to explain the policy, the official said, “Every country has rules about what can or cannot enter.”

Yeah, but those rules are there to prevent drugs, pornography, illegal aliens, contraband, weapons, and possibly bad imports (here’s looking at you China) from entering the country. I don’t think Qurans, Bibles, Torahs, Book of Mormons, and other religious texts and artifacts are normally on the list of things “banned” from a country. If this is what life would be like under an Islamic state then the middle east can keep it.

Thanks to LGF for the tip.

Politics – Earmark spending still all the rage.

August 9, 2007 Aurvant 1 comment

And we thought this was going to be the most ethical congress in history.

Back when the Democrats swept their way to victory in the 06 elections we were told that the age of earmark spending was over and that the irresponsible spending was going to be put to an end. Well, they lied.

Senior lawmakers and their colleagues managed to slip earmarks into the landmark Sept. 11 security bill, which the Senate approved late last night.

In to the 9/11 security bill you say? But the earmarks are being distributed to other security measures in Homeland security right?

Buried in the legislation, which is not a spending bill, Congressional Quarterly found language diverting $18 million for homeland security-related research at three universities: Mississippi’s Tougaloo College, championed by House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss.; New York’s Long Island University, thanks to House Homeland Security Committee ranking member Peter D. King, R-N.Y.; and the University of Connecticut, pushed by Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs ranking member Joe Lieberman, I-Conn.

The schools will be part of a “National Transportation Security Center of Excellence” consortium. The bill directs the schools to study transportation security and develop training methods for “transportation employees and transportation professionals.”

Wow, thats just great. I’m glad that they found some meaningless crap to go and spend my taxpayers money on. Republican or Democrat it doesn’t really matter on this subject. I just wish the guys up there in congress would quit writing the checks out to whatever the hell pet project they feel like and start spending it on real important things like actual border security or providing more armor and ammunition to our soldiers on the battlefield.

The culture of corruption continues.

Politics – When in doubt…raise taxes!!!

August 9, 2007 Aurvant Leave a comment

At least thats what this guy says.

Does it surprise anyone that it’s a Democrat? Not meeee~ A leading Congressional Democrat, James Oberstar, says that the only way to get the money to fix those bridges is to raise your taxes! However, he’s going to do it in the place where it’s going to hurt the most….the gas pump. He is proposing that “temporary” taxes on Gasoline, Diesel, and imported oil be raised to help cover for the cost of rebuilding and remodeling some of the bridges in the U.S.

He suggested that a three-year, 5 cents per gallon tax on gasoline and diesel fuel could generate approximately $25 billion for bridge reconstruction.

5 cents? That’s it? Ohhh wait…..doesn’t that raise the current tax rate from 18.5c per gallong to 23.5c per gallon? So, now the people at the pump are going to have to pay a quarter of a dollar per each gallon of gas in taxes. Gee, thanks dems. I don’t see why they have to do this….I’m pretty sure they have some useless social programs they could stop funding in order to cover the cost….like welfare or something.  I just hope that other congressmen don’t agree with this guy….is there anyone out there who would oppose him?

There has been little to no political will in Congress to raise gasoline taxes even though Oberstar and even some key Republicans supported the idea two years ago in highway construction legislation that included money for bridges. The Bush administration opposed the increase.

Oh, aside from a few moronic republicans it seems that everyone thinks it’s a bad idea. He tried to push the idea out there two years ago, but hopefully they’ll shoot the idea down again this time.

Strange – Giant Lego Man found in the sea.

August 9, 2007 Aurvant 2 comments

It terrorized a beach too.

Really….what do you say to that? A giant Lego Man doesn’t wash up on a beach every day. Could you imagine the look on peoples faces when they see this larger than life yellowish plastic man come bobbing up out of the water?

A woman nearby added: “I saw the Lego toy floating toward the beach from the direction of England.”

Sounds like the tagline of a B-horror movie. “It CAAAAAMMME from England!!!”
