It wasn’t spectacular by any means and i’ll try to paraphrase it all up for you, but it basically just became a “I’m not stupid YOUR stupid” contest between the candidates. I welcome a few arguments here and there, but these guys don’t even sound logical anymore. Especially Ron “Crazyface” Paul and his conspirator constituents constantly blaming the Federal Reserve and the Bush Administration for darn near everything.
Regarding Iraq, Rep. Ron Paul of Texas stood out as the maverick of the group, repeating his call for an immediate exit. “We went in illegally and we ought to just come home!” he said to applause.
It’s not really what he is saying that makes him crazy at times (although that is a large part of it) it’s mostly the desperate way he exclaims it.
McCain hasn’t figured out yet that he isn’t going to be getting the nomination. After his Immigration debacle trying to get Amnesty passed on through the American people just don’t support him like they did back during the 2000 elections. The old man’s lost his luster and he just doesn’t realize it yet. However, he did try to pull out his “Absolute Moral Authority” credentials in regarding the war.
“I am fully prepared — fully prepared, more than anyone else running on either side — to fight the transcendent challenge of this nation, which will be for all of the 21st century. And that is the struggle against radical Islamic extremism,” said McCain, citing his military background.
I believe that McCain is dedicated to the War in Iraq and that he truly believes he knows whats best when it comes to fighting the War on Terrorism. However, in most of the peoples eyes he contradicts himself in regards to security and preventing another attack. He tied to keep the Borders open and grant millions of illegals a quick path to Amnesty without offering any federal funding to build the border fence or beef up security upon the Canadian and Mexican borders. It’s almost like playing the fence and the American people get tired of politicians who play to both sides.
Tancredo is still reeling from the backlash of his “Bomb Mecca & Medina” comment the other day. I know what he was trying to say when he said it, but that little brain fart of a slip up is going to hurt him with a lot of people.
Brownback is ok, but he doesn’t have the charisma of many of the other candidates. Hearts in the right place, but I just don’t think he appeals to that many people.
Mitt Romney had to explain his current position on Abortion. He has been getting flak from the Left and the Right in regards to this topic. Many liberals call him a hypocrite saying that he supported Abortion, but now he doesn’t, and the Right is leery of trusting him because they wonder if the Left is correct on this one. I, personally, like Romney and if he got the nomination I’d vote for him. He seems to portray a genuine attitude and he seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Besides…..his public speaking record is pretty good and it would be hard to say that Romney isn’t a good public speaker. They guy’s got some charisma and in the long run that does count.
Giuliani did alright, but I just get the sense that he is slipping away here. He has been the front runner for so long in this race that the only place he can really go is down. He was called to defend his stance on Abortion and, regardless if I support Abortion or not, he did make a good point.
“I believe the best way we can have common ground in this debate that you’re hearing is if we put our emphasis on reducing abortions and increasing the number of adoptions, which is something that I did as mayor of New York City,” he said. “But I think ultimately that decision that has to be made is one that government shouldn’t make.
I agree. The Government shouldn’t make that decision for people.
Well, at the end they were all pretty much together on putting Obama to task about his naive and uneducated responses last week regarding what his foreign policy would be. That was kinda fun to watch. Romney’s retort was the best though:
“I think Barack Obama is confused as to who are our friends and who are our enemies,” he said.
Oh snapz. Anyways, if you missed the debate you didn’t really miss much, but it wasn’t so bad that I could say it wasn’t entertaining. You got to hear some candidates explain themselves better, but it really was just more of the same stuff you hear on talk radio or from the news networks every day. Still, I kinda hope that Fred Thompson will jump in the race so that we can finally hear his views in the debating ring.
Can’t wait to see if he actually does jump in on Sept.5
