Politics – Gingrich claims War on Terror is “phony”

Et tu Newty?

I will concede that there have been some pretty big hiccups along the way. We’ve had some bad months too, but I would think that the global War on Terror has largely been a good thing and I would hardly classify it as phony. Has the British, Spanish, American, and other nations (who have been proactive in combating terrorism) been overly successful in thwarting a few major plots along the way? The War on Terror isn’t just in Iraq there Gingrich……it kinda encompasses everywhere that Terrorism might strike.

Iraq is just a focal point in the war meant to serve as a future bulwark in combating against extremist fanatics who like to blow themselves up, and the last thing I heard was that the surge, despite Democrat naysayers, was beginning to show some actual progress. Our boys know how to fight and they know how to win, but they don’t particularly appreciate a man, who is supposed to be on their side, claiming that their objective is phony or failing.

Bad call Newt. I was hoping you’d run, but you lost my confidence right there. I seriously doubt that this will tide over well with the pro-military crowd who still have faith in the mission. This is right up there with the McCain screwup of backing and creating the Immigration/Amnesty bill that was just recently defeated a month or so ago. If he was running….this wouldn’t have helped.

Sad really. The man should know better. Perhaps he knows something that I don’t but to hear him go out and just take people, who supported him, to task…well….I can’t say it will end well for Ole’ Newt.

Hmm, I would agree with you that certain actions against terrorists have been succesfull. I would also agree that certain agreements between nations to promote coöperation have been a step forward. I however doubt that they are a direct consequence of the hate- and fearmongering that has lead to a decline in citizens rights and checks and balances in a great number of countries.
You can’t wage a ‘WAR ON TERROR’. If you have to counter real terrorism, the so-called ‘watchfullness’ of the citizens and the ‘price for our freedom’ is exactly what terrorists are after.
Measures have been taken that a few years ago would have been deemed impossible with ‘1984′ fresh in our minds.
Today anyone can be taken into custody anywhere, anytime, for any reason, by any of a number of nations, without a trail and with disregard for international laws, human rights or the Geneva convention.
Now to me that’s scary, … really … It reminds me of the French Revolution … Or the way the ‘communist’ regimes so many today still seem to point at as being the great evil used to controll their populace.
I guess that way the ‘War on Terror’ will end in a flawless victory after all. Is it not the victor that rewrites history?

Strange.. you seem to contradict your own tag line! You’re “right?” And a person who spent his life in politics is criticized for his assessment? Since when was the war on Terror in Iraq? Didn’t our fearless leaders claim it to be Afghanistan and the so-called Al-Qaeda? Didn’t we recently read a report about Al-Qaeda’s increased power and abilities after all these years of the “War on Terrorism?” So where did Newt go wrong? He simply stated that we’re not winning this “phony war” as the Administration claimed!
